Ranges

[ ] square brackets are used to enclose sets or ranges
[ao]pe, will match the substring ape or ope
chap[3-6].txt will match chap3.txt, chap4.txt, chap5.txt and chap6.txt
^ matches the pattern to the beginning of the line
$ matches the pattern to the end of the line
